Qabalistic III Dance Shema

Jewish

Kevin Townley

Lyrics

Shemaya Shemaya Shemaya Israel (x2) Adonai eloheinu adonai echad (x2)

Translation

In Modern Hebrew, the word is pronounced 'Shema.' In the dance it is pronounced 'Shemayah,' which gives a voicing to the letter Aleph, which is representative of the Life Breath and has no particular sound quality. The Mother letters Aleph, Mem and Shin are the three principles which emanate from total unity, Aleph being the first, Mem the second and Shin the third. As the process of creation develops, the created beings (humanity) are beckoned to reverse the order of the letters as they listen to the One centered in the core of their being. Thus, Aleph Mem Shin become Shim Mem Aleph, giving us the word 'Shema," to Hear. "Hear oh Israel the Lord thy God, the Lord thy God is one."
